• Anabolic steroids are artificially produced substances that reciprocate the effects of testosterone, a male hormone. • Common forms include tablets, creams, and water & oil-based solutions. • While anabolic steroids are used for medical purposes –such as treating delayed puberty and testosterone deficiency– they are also abused illegally in amounts 10-100x greater than legally approved doses, increasing a user's risk of artery disease, heart attacks, liver damage, and more. • Other effects of steroid abuse include mood swings, hostility, and faulty judgment. A sudden absence of steroids may also cause a dependent user to develop depression. • CREDITS Photo by NIH: https://nida.nih.gov/sites/default/files/2020-05/steroids-rr-promo.jpg Information from DEA: https://www.dea.gov/sites/default/files/2020-06/Steroids-2020_0.pdf
